Component 01 is a compulsory component. It is worth 100 marks, representing 50% of the total marks for the GCSE (9–1).
Component 1 is made up of two parts, section A, which accounts for 30 marks (15% of the GCSE total) and Section B, which accounts for 70 marks (35% of the GCSE total):

Defined vocabulary, and prescribed accidence and syntax are required for Component 01, Language with the exception for the translation of the English sentences into Latin.
